Yonex designed the Carbon Cruise Aerus GT with one job in mind: helping runners go faster. It follows the original Carbon Cruise Aerus, which built a strong reputation for speed training, and pushes further towards race day.
What makes it a speed shoe
- A speed-focused carbon plate. The 3D Power Carbon plate is stiffer than the original Aerus's, for more propulsion at pace.
- Responsive cushioning. Power Cushion REV returns around 16% more energy than Yonex's previous Power Cushion+.
- Low weight. Around 215g per shoe (26.0cm), so there's little to carry. See the weight breakdown.
- Grip. An Endurance Rubber outsole for traction when you push off hard.
How it feels at pace
The Aerus GT isn't a wildly bouncy super shoe. Testers in Japan describe a smooth, rolling ride with quick foot turnover, which makes it easy to lock into a rhythm and hold your pace. If you're a runner who likes to feel in control rather than launched forward, that's a big plus.
How to use it in training
- Tempo runs: sustained efforts at a comfortably hard pace, where the shoe's rhythm-friendly ride helps most.
- Intervals: repeats on the road where light weight and a responsive plate pay off.
- Race-pace sessions: get used to the shoe before race day, never race in a brand-new pair.
For easy and recovery runs, keep a softer everyday trainer in rotation. Our guide to replacing running shoes explains why rotating pairs helps them last longer.
On race day
- Wear them for at least a few sessions first so the fit is familiar.
- Pair them with proper running socks to avoid blisters. Our running socks guide covers what to look for.
- Lace them securely but not tight; the seamless Durable Skin Light upper is designed to hold the foot without pressure points.
