Central Sports runs one of the UK's busiest professional racket restringing services, covering badminton, tennis, squash and racketball. Our trained stringers work from dedicated stringing benches in our Coventry, Birmingham and Milton Keynes stores, and we operate a nationwide postal restringing service so you can have your racket restrung wherever you are in the UK. As the appointed retailer of the Yonex All England Championships and an official BADMINTON England retail partner, we string to tournament standard every time.

How our restringing service works

  1. In store: bring your racket to any Central Sports store. Same-day and while-you-wait restringing is available on request, and most rackets are ready within 24 hours.
  2. By post: send us your racket with your chosen string and tension. We restring it on the day it arrives and ship it straight back — typical turnaround is 24 hours from receipt.
  3. With a new racket: free professional restringing is included on most premium rackets (typically £100+) and heavily discounted on all others — just choose your string and tension at checkout.

Strings we stock

We hold a full range of badminton, tennis and squash strings on the shelf and on reel, including Yonex BG65, BG66 Ultimax, BG80, Aerosonic, Aerobite and Exbolt, plus Ashaway, Babolat, Wilson, Head and Tecnifibre. Not sure which string suits your game? Our stringers will recommend the right string and tension for your level and playing style — power, control or durability. Browse all strings.

Tension and string advice

Lower tensions (e.g. 20–23lb for badminton) give more power and a larger sweet spot — ideal for beginners and club players. Higher tensions (24–28lb+) give more control and a crisper response for advanced players with a fast, grooved stroke. For tennis, lower tensions add power and comfort while higher tensions add control and spin. Tell us your level and we'll dial in the right setup.

Restring with the experts

Every restring is done by hand on professional electronic stringing machines, with proper knotting, straightened mains and crosses, and a tension you can trust. Whether it's a £30 club frame or a £300 tournament racket, it gets the same care. Plan your visit or contact us to arrange a postal restring.

Frequently asked questions about racket restringing

How much does badminton restringing cost?

Restringing is priced by the string you choose plus a fitting charge, and is free on most premium new rackets. In-store and postal pricing is the same. Contact your nearest store for a quote on your specific string, or choose your string at checkout when buying a new racket.

How long does restringing take?

In store, same-day and while-you-wait services are available on request; most rackets are ready within 24 hours. For postal restrings, we restring on the day your racket arrives and post it straight back — typically a 24-hour turnaround from receipt.

Can you restring tennis, squash and racketball rackets too?

Yes. As well as badminton we restring tennis, squash and racketball rackets to your chosen string and tension, in store or by post across the UK.

Do you offer a postal restringing service?

Yes — we restring rackets sent in from anywhere in the UK. Send your racket with your chosen string and tension and we'll restring it the day it arrives and return it to you.

What tension should I string my racket at?

Beginners and club players usually prefer lower tensions for more power and forgiveness; advanced players choose higher tensions for control. Our stringers will recommend the ideal tension for your level and racket — just ask.
