Shuttle Finder
Answer three quick questions and we'll help you choose between feather and nylon shuttles, and the right speed.
Step 1 of 3
Feather vs nylon shuttlecocks
The biggest choice is between feather and nylon (synthetic) shuttles.
| Feather | Nylon | |
|---|---|---|
| Flight & feel | Best, most authentic | Good, slightly different |
| Durability | Lower | Much higher |
| Cost per game | Higher | Lower |
| Best for | Matches and serious play | Practice, beginners, casual |
Getting the speed right
Shuttle speed is matched to your hall. Cooler halls need a faster shuttle; warmer halls need a slower one. Medium speed (77/78, or speed 3) suits most UK halls.
Looking after your shuttles
- Store the tube flat and let feather shuttles acclimatise to the hall before play.
- Rotate shuttles during a game to even out the wear.
- A little humidity stops feathers becoming brittle.
