Padel demands constant lateral movement, sharp stops and explosive changes of direction — and that puts very different demands on your footwear than running or even tennis. Central Sports stocks dedicated padel shoes for men and women from leading brands including Adidas, Bullpadel, Asics, Head and NOX, all engineered with the grip, lateral support and durable outsoles a sand-dressed artificial-turf court requires.
Our team can help you match the right outsole and fit to your court and playing style in store at Birmingham and Milton Keynes or by phone. Next-working-day UK delivery on orders before 2pm.
Choosing padel shoes
Outsole: a herringbone or omni/clay tread bites into sand-dressed turf for grip while still allowing a controlled slide — avoid flat road-running soles, which skid. Lateral support: reinforced sidewalls and toe bumpers protect against the rolling forces of quick direction changes. Cushioning: responsive midsole cushioning absorbs repeated stops without feeling sluggish. Fit: a snug, locked-in heel prevents slipping during lunges — size as you would a tennis shoe.
Frequently asked questions about padel shoes
Can I wear running shoes for padel?
We don't recommend it. Running shoes are built for straight-line, heel-to-toe motion and have smooth or soft outsoles that skid on sand-dressed turf and offer no lateral support. Padel involves constant side-to-side movement, so a dedicated padel or clay-court shoe with a herringbone outsole and reinforced sidewalls is far safer and grippier.
What is the difference between padel shoes and tennis shoes?
They're closely related — many clay-court tennis shoes work well for padel because both surfaces are sand-dressed. The key feature is a herringbone (omni/clay) outsole that grips turf while allowing a controlled slide. Padel-specific models often add extra toe and lateral reinforcement for the sport's sharp pivots.
How should padel shoes fit?
Snug but not tight, with a locked-in heel and a little room at the toe. A secure fit stops your foot sliding inside the shoe during lunges and quick stops. Most players take the same size as their everyday trainers; if you're between sizes and play hard, size down for a more locked-in feel.
