The name gives it away. In Yonex's world, Aerus has always meant light: the Aerus badminton shoes became famous for being among the lightest court shoes the brand had ever made. The Carbon Cruise Aerus GT brings that thinking to running.
The number: around 215g
Yonex lists the Aerus GT at roughly 215g per shoe, measured at 26.0cm (around a UK 7.5). That's with a full carbon plate, a two-layer midsole and a rubber outsole, so nothing has been stripped out to hit the number.
Where the weight savings come from
Feather Light X
The lower midsole uses Feather Light X, which Yonex calls its lightest material to date. It's around 30% lighter than standard EVA foam, the material most everyday running shoes are built from.
Power Cushion REV
The top midsole layer is Power Cushion REV, around 27% lighter than the previous Power Cushion+ while absorbing more shock and returning more energy. Yonex has made the cushioning lighter and better at the same time, rather than trading one for the other.
Durable Skin Light upper
A thin, seamless synthetic upper avoids the extra layers and stitching that add grams to many shoes.
Why weight matters
- Every stride counts. Over a 10K you'll take thousands of steps. A lighter shoe means less work lifting your feet each time.
- Quicker turnover. Light shoes make it easier to keep a fast, steady cadence, which is how testers in Japan described the Aerus GT's ride.
- Fresher legs late on. The difference between a light and heavy shoe is most obvious in the final third of a hard session.
Light isn't everything: the shoe also needs to be stable and comfortable, which is where the 3D Power Carbon plate and Power Cushion REV come in.
