Q: Which Babolat tennis racket should I choose as an intermediate UK player?

For most intermediate club players we recommend the Babolat Pure Drive 100 - 300g, 100 sq.in., 16x19 pattern. World's best-selling tennis racket: forgiving, powerful, easy to swing. Heavy topspin players should look at Pure Aero; control-focused at Pure Strike.

Q: Pure Aero or Pure Drive - what's the difference?

Pure Aero has an open 16x19 string pattern and aerodynamic beam, designed for maximum spin - Rafa's racket. Pure Drive has a more standard pattern and slightly flatter feel for power all-court play. Spin players choose Aero; flatter hitters choose Drive.

Q: Are Babolat tennis rackets good for beginners?

Yes - the Pure Drive Lite (270g) and Boost series are ideal beginner choices. Lighter, more manoeuvrable, with larger heads (102-105 sq.in.). The full-weight Pure Drive, Pure Aero and Pure Strike suit intermediate-to-advanced players.

Babolat is the oldest racket sports brand in the world, founded in Lyon, France in 1875 — the year the modern tennis racket string was invented. Today Babolat dominates the tennis world (Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz and dozens of top-100 ATP/WTA players use Babolat frames) and produces a strong badminton and padel line. Central Sports stocks the complete UK Babolat range across tennis rackets, badminton rackets, padel rackets, strings, balls, shoes, bags and accessories.

The Babolat tennis racket families

Pure Aero — power and spin. Rafael Nadal’s racket. The defining racket of modern heavy-topspin baseline tennis. Aerodynamic frame, open string pattern, designed for spin generators.
Pure Drive — power all-court. The world’s best-selling tennis racket family for over 20 years. Forgiving, fast, generates easy power. The default recommendation for intermediates moving up from a beginner frame.
Pure Strike — control and precision. Dominic Thiem’s racket family. Tighter string pattern, more flexible feel, for technical players who hit through the ball.
Drive — lighter Drive variants for juniors and intermediate adults transitioning up.

Increasingly popular in UK club badminton thanks to forgiving frames and competitive pricing. Frequently asked questions about Babolat

Which Babolat tennis racket should I choose as an intermediate UK player?

For most intermediate club players we recommend the Babolat Pure Drive 100 (300g, 100 sq.in., 16x19 pattern) — it’s the world’s best-selling tennis racket for a reason: forgiving, powerful, easy to swing, and adapts to most play styles. Heavy topspin players should look at the Pure Aero; control-focused players should consider the Pure Strike.

Pure Aero or Pure Drive — what’s the difference?

Pure Aero has an open string pattern (16x19), aerodynamic beam, designed for maximum spin and aggressive topspin baseline play — Rafa’s racket. Pure Drive has a more standard pattern, slightly flatter feel, designed for power all-court play. If you swing fast and brush up the ball for spin, choose Pure Aero. If you hit flatter with a smoother stroke, choose Pure Drive.

What string tension should I use on a Babolat racket?

Most adult intermediate players string Babolat tennis rackets at 50-55 lbs with RPM Blast (polyester) or a multifilament. Spin players go lower (48-52 lbs) for more pocketing and string movement. Control players go higher (54-58 lbs). Our stringers will recommend the right tension based on your racket model and stroke style.

Are Babolat tennis rackets good for beginners?

Yes — the Pure Drive Lite (270g) and Boost series are ideal beginner choices. They’re lighter, more manoeuvrable, with larger heads (102-105 sq.in.) for a bigger sweet spot. The full-weight Pure Drive, Pure Aero and Pure Strike are better suited to intermediate-to-advanced players.

Do Babolat badminton rackets compare to Yonex?

Babolat’s badminton line is competitively priced and well-engineered, particularly the X-Feel range. Yonex still dominates the top end of the sport but Babolat is a credible mid-range alternative, especially for crossover tennis players. The Babolat X-Feel Spark is a popular intermediate-level pick.

Do you string Babolat rackets in store?

Yes — full in-store Babolat stringing service at our Birmingham and Milton Keynes branches. We stock the full Babolat string library (RPM Blast, RPM Soft, VS Touch, Pro Hurricane, Origin, Synthetic Gut) and string to your specified tension with same-day turnaround.
