Padel Rackets
Padel is the fastest-growing racket sport in the UK, and the racket you choose changes how the game feels more than any other piece of kit. Central Sports stocks padel rackets from Bullpadel, Adidas, Head, Wilson, Babolat and AiXO — round, teardrop and diamond frames covering first-timers through to tournament players. Our staff play and coach racket sports, and you can try frames in person at our Birmingham and Milton Keynes stores.
How to choose a padel racket
Three things decide how a padel racket plays: shape, weight and face material.
Shape
- Round — the sweet spot sits in the middle of the face and the balance is head-light. The most forgiving and the easiest to control. Best for beginners and control players. Browse round padel rackets.
- Teardrop — the sweet spot moves slightly higher, splitting the difference between power and control. The versatile all-round choice for improving players. Browse teardrop and hybrid frames.
- Diamond — the sweet spot sits high in the head with a head-heavy balance, generating maximum power on smashes and bandejas. Demands clean technique. Browse competitive frames.
Weight
Most padel rackets fall between 350g and 385g. Lighter frames are quicker at the net and kinder on the elbow and shoulder; heavier frames hit through the ball harder from the back of the court. If you are unsure, or you have had arm trouble before, go lighter.
Face material
- Carbon fibre — a stiffer face that returns more power, spin and durability. Browse carbon padel rackets.
- Fibreglass — a softer face with more flex, giving comfort, forgiveness and a gentler feel on off-centre hits. Browse fibreglass padel rackets.
Shop padel rackets by level
- Beginner padel rackets — forgiving round frames with a large central sweet spot.
- Intermediate padel rackets — versatile teardrop and hybrid shapes.
- Advanced padel rackets — stiffer, higher-performance carbon frames.
- Competitive padel rackets — tournament-spec diamond frames.

Padel racket FAQs
What padel racket should a beginner buy?
A round-shape racket with a fibreglass or soft carbon face, weighing around 355–365g, with a head-light balance. The large central sweet spot makes mishits far more playable while you are learning where the ball meets the face.
What is the difference between round, teardrop and diamond padel rackets?
The shape moves the sweet spot. Round frames place it centrally for maximum control and forgiveness, teardrop frames raise it slightly for a balance of power and control, and diamond frames place it high in the head for maximum power at the cost of forgiveness.
How heavy should a padel racket be?
Most padel rackets weigh 350–385g. Lighter frames are faster at the net and easier on the arm; heavier frames give more power and stability from the back of the court. Players with a history of elbow or shoulder problems should choose a lighter frame.
Is carbon fibre or fibreglass better for a padel racket?
Neither is universally better. Carbon fibre is stiffer and gives more power, spin and durability, which suits stronger and more advanced players. Fibreglass flexes more, giving comfort and forgiveness, which suits beginners and players who want an easier feel.
Can I try a padel racket before buying?
